About The Role
WEKA is seeking a Director, Corporate Communications, to lead and scale our internal and external communications function, including earned media, employee communications, employer brand, and issues management. Reporting to the VP of Corporate Marketing, you'll set the public relations agenda, direct our agency of record, keep employees informed and inspired, and turn WEKA's story into coverage, conversation, and credibility.
You'll drive a communications program that already has real momentum in thought leadership and trend authority. Your mandate is to build on that foundation and raise the bar, helping cement the company's position as a category leader. You’ll be joining an AI-forward team that uses AI across research, monitoring, drafting, and measurement, with human judgment and storytelling as the differentiator. You'll set that standard.
This is a hands-on, player-coach role. You'll shape communications strategy and execute it yourself: writing press releases, running launch-day logistics, editing your team's work, and building programs from the ground up. Leaders who thrive at WEKA lead by doing.
What You'll Be Working On
Public Relations
- PR strategy and signature moments. Own the earned media agenda end to end: product launches, corporate announcements, and the campaigns between them. Decide what's a story, what's a stunt, and what's a pass.
- Media and influencer coverage and relationships. Build a durable pipeline of tier-one tech, business, and AI trade coverage. Cultivate relationships with journalists, podcasters, and independent influencers who are shaping coverage of AI infrastructure, including those traditional PR playbooks miss.
- Narrative amplification. Bring WEKA's corporate narrative to life across earned and owned channels, translating approved messaging into stories the media wants to tell and ensuring every pitch, placement, and headline reinforces WEKA's category position.
- Spokesperson and subject matter expert development. Grow WEKA's bench of technical spokespeople through bylines, panels, and speaking programs, in close partnership with the VP of Corporate Marketing.
- Issues and crisis communications. Own the playbook for the moments nobody plans for: pre-staged materials, clear escalation paths, calm hands, and coordinated messaging inside and out.
Internal Communications and Employer Brand
- Employee communications. Keep everyone at WEKA informed, connected, engaged, and excited about where WEKA is going, with programs that reach both remote and in-office teams equally. Manage company-wide channels and oversee content for all hands and town halls.
- Employer brand. Develop campaigns and materials that strengthen WEKA's reputation as a place to do career-defining work, in partnership with our People team, and measure employee sentiment and engagement along the way.
- Change communications. Help leadership communicate wins, changes, and challenges with authenticity and consistency during periods of growth and transition.
Leadership and Operations
- Team and agency leadership. Manage, develop, and scale a global Corporate Communications team. Direct WEKA’s global PR agency expansion, strategy, and output; set clear expectations, drive high performance, measure what's working and calibrate what’s not.
- Operational excellence. Build the operating system for a high-demand function: intake workflows, service-level agreements, templates, and prioritization frameworks that manage inbound requests from across the company, set clear expectations with stakeholders, and protect the team's capacity for the work that matters most.
- AI-forward communications operations. Modernize how the function works: AI-assisted monitoring and rapid response, measurement that connects coverage to how LLMs and search engines find and describe WEKA, and workflows that multiply the team's impact. Partner with Digital Marketing on generative engine visibility.
Qualifications
- 12+ years in corporate communications, with a background spanning both external and internal communications and 3+ years leading teams and agencies.
- B2B tech depth, ideally in AI, cloud, or data infrastructure; you can hold your own in a conversation about GPUs, AI inference, and why memory architectures matter, and you know when to bring an SME.
- A player-coach leadership style: you still pitch, write, and edit alongside your team, and you're energized by doing the work, not just directing it.
- Demonstrated AI fluency in your practice: you use AI tools daily, you have a point of view on where they accelerate communications work and where they fall short, and you can teach that judgment to a team.
- Proven track record building media relationships and running PR campaigns with measurable outcomes. Examples of writing, media, and executive visibility placements are required.
- Familiarity with generative engine optimization and how earned media influences LLM authority and shapes AI-generated answers and citations.
- Crisis and change communications experience under real pressure.
- Sharp editorial judgment and a low tolerance for vendor-speak; if a message could have come from any storage company, you strike it.
- Proven success building within global growth-stage companies in competitive, fast-moving technology categories.
Good to Have
- Experience navigating a category transition or corporate repositioning.
- A combination of agency and in-house experience preferred.
