Weka is looking for a motivated and experienced backend engineer with deep knowledge of systems, web applications, and observability stack,
As a backend engineer, you will build and maintain Weka web applications and contribute to the development of Weka’s observability system.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain highly scalable web applications with performance, reliability, and observability in mind.
- Drive the development of Weka’s observability platform at scale—ensuring we gather meaningful metrics, logs, traces, and act on them.
- Lead by example: conduct thorough code & architecture reviews—not only of your own code but also with peers—to ensure maintainability, consistency, and high standards.
- Champion best practices in development processes: share knowledge, improve coding standards, automate where possible, and mentor others.
- Partner closely with product, UX, and cross-functional teams to deliver features from conception through to production—ensuring quality, timeliness, and user value.
- Actively participate in on-call, incident response, post-mortems, and proactively identify reliability or performance bottlenecks.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer building production services for large or distributed systems (web, microservices, observability, etc.).
- Strong experience in Go (Golang)—you are comfortable building services, understanding memory/Go-routines, performance tuning, etc.
- Solid experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.), including deploying, monitoring, and scaling services in that cloud.
- Deep understanding of containerization and orchestration tools—especially Kubernetes—and familiarity with observability tooling (metrics, logs, traces). Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, or similar are a plus.
- Experience with relational databases—PostgreSQL preferred—and messaging or queuing systems (e.g., NATS, Kafka, or equivalent).
- Strong problem solving and debugging skills in production environments (including tracing issues, performance chokepoints, etc.).
- Excellent English communication (verbal & written), ability to collaborate across teams, and mentor junior engineers.
