## Why attend

Get your own isolated 6-node WEKA cluster on AWS (WEKA 5.1, NFS + S3 gateways, tiered to S3) for a 90-minute hands-on lab. Work from a Linux jump box and watch results live in the WEKA UI.

In 90 minutes, do what usually takes a procurement cycle and a scheduled PoC: benchmark a live filesystem, run NFS and S3 against the same data with no copies, snapshot and clone in a few clicks, then pull a drive mid-job and see whether IO holds.

## Register and you could win a pass to SC26

Everyone who registers for WEKA Lab: Break a Live Cluster is entered to win an Exhibits pass to SC26, the Supercomputing Conference, November 17-19 at McCormick Place in Chicago. The Exhibits pass gets you onto the expo floor Tuesday through Thursday, plus the keynote, Exhibitor Forum, Birds of a Feather sessions and more.

## Agenda:

- Intro & Setup
- Performance: four-corners FIO test from one client: 5.6 GiB/s read, 2.1 GiB/s write, ~0.3 ms latency, 476K read IOPS
- One namespace, three protocols, two tiers: ingest over S3, read over NFS and POSIX with matching checksums; a file moves to S3 and back transparently
- Snapshot to S3 + restore: delete the data, restore from S3, 302/302 files verified bit-for-bit
- Node failure: hard-crash a storage server under live I/O: 0 I/O errors, cluster back to OK in ~40 seconds

Connection details and a copy-paste lab guide go out 48 hours ahead, so no one spends the session fighting SSH. Optional tech-check window opens 15 minutes before the start. No license needed; nothing is uploaded from attendee laptops.

## Facilitators

- **Shailen Patel** — Senior SE, WEKA
- **Bob Bakh** — Senior SE, WEKA
- **Michael Bowlin** — Senior SE, WEKA

## Attendee Prerequisites:

- Basic Linux command-line skills: logging in over SSH, moving between folders, running commands
- A laptop (macOS, Linux or Windows 10/11) with internet access
- A terminal with SSH: Terminal on macOS/Linux, PowerShell on Windows (SSH is built in, nothing to install)
- A web browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari
- Zoom for the session
- Outbound access from your network to: TCP 22 (SSH) to log in to the lab jump box / TCP 14000 (HTTPS) for the WEKA web UI
- If a corporate network or VPN blocks those ports, use a personal network or hotspot, or follow along on the presenter's screen
- Access to Google Drive (link shared in Zoom) to download your SSH key and access sheet _(if this is an issue for attendees we can share this via the zoom chat)_
- No software installs or data uploads needed: all lab work runs on the jump box
