Flash Memory Summit 2019 Recap: WekaIO wins again!
Barbara Murphy. August 29, 2019
Before we let Flash Memory Summit 2019 pass into memory (no pun intended), I just wanted to recap a few of the highlights from the show.
First, Weka wins again! We were honored to win the Best of Show award for the Most Innovative Flash Memory Enterprise Business Application, along with our partner Micron. What pushed us over the top? WekaIO’s flagship product, WekaFS™, running on an array of Micron 9200 NVMe SSDs, achieved record-breaking performance with the trusted independent industry SPEC SFS 2014 benchmark! See the results for yourself here.
Our own Barbara Murphy, VP of Marketing at WekaIO, was on hand to accept the award along with Roger Peene from Micron. For more information on this exciting award, please read the joint press release from WekaIO and Micron.
We had a great time on the show floor, and big thanks to our partner Mellanox for hosting us in their booth. We had with many meaningful conversations with customers and partners. And we even managed to give away some nice headphones as well!
We also had some great speaking opportunities for our executive team, with our CTO Andy Watson participating in a panel of experts on Cloud Storage. On Wednesday, Andy also presented on how to get the most out of QLC-based NVMe storage, where he made the point that while QLC is simple for laptops, it isn’t as straightforward for file servers. A more nuanced QLC strategy is called for, and Andy pointed out how we’re approaching it at WekaIO. Finally, on Thursday, Andy participated on another panel (he was busy!) – this time on how the advent of IoT and the data avalanche has created challenges for organizations trying to use AI to glean any value from this mountain of data.
Wrapping up the show, our channel chief, Mat Gruen, offered his thoughts on flash solutions for AL/ML workloads, and yours truly was part of a panel talking about flash for big data analytics. You can review a complete summary of the event and the breakouts here.
Overall, we had a great time spreading the word about how WekaIO can help customers solve their data-intensive challenges. Thanks again to our customers and partners, and we’ll see you in 2020!
